webediting

The webeditor's role

As with other editorial roles, the responsibilities of the webeditor vary from project to project. From my experience as webeditor of a sizeable legal website, the list of tasks includes:

  • gathering material and liaising with site developers
  • creating webpages, menus and links
  • writing copy for webpages
  • editing website copy online
  • adding images
  • adding links
  • proofreading site
  • ongoing site maintenance and updating.

It is important to approach webediting with a fresh eye. It is very different from print-based editing because your potential readers are expecting their information in bite-size, accessible chunks.
