The webeditor's role
As with other editorial roles, the responsibilities of the webeditor vary from project to project. From my experience as webeditor of a sizeable legal website, the list of tasks includes:
- gathering material and liaising with site developers
- creating webpages, menus and links
- writing copy for webpages
- editing website copy online
- adding images
- adding links
- proofreading site
- ongoing site maintenance and updating.
It is important to approach webediting with a fresh eye. It is very different from print-based editing because your potential readers are expecting their information in bite-size, accessible chunks.
